Reduce Home Party Plan Cancellations

How to Prevent a Hostess from Canceling a Party

Your goal as a direct sales-party plan consultant is to host as many parties as possible so that you can make money. Many people may try to sugarcoat it and say that it isn’t all about the money, but let’s face it, that’s exactly what the business is about. Unfortunately, cancellations are a part of the business. You should not be surprised to experience a 25% cancellation rate. Your goal is to try to prevent a party from being canceled before it happens.

You may think that there is nothing you can do in order to change the outcome, but you can in most cases.

Reasons Hostesses Cancel

The number one reason that hostesses cancel is due to a lack of guests. You can very easily take a few precautions to prevent this. The first thing you can do is to make your parties exciting. Make each party an event to remember. Not only will this help prevent cancellations, it can also increase the number of parties that you book.

Themed parties are very memorable. They are less likely to be canceled as well. Think of it this way, if you were invited to two different parties on the same night, you will have to make a decision on which one to attend. One of the parties has a spa theme. You will go and enjoy a little bit of pampering and maybe purchase some new makeup or kitchen tools. The other party will have snacks and someone rambling on and on about their products and how much you need them.

Which one will you attend next time or even book a show from? The one where you have fun, or the one that is a little on the boring side? Chances are you chose the one where you have fun.

Direct Sales Consultants Send The Party Invitations

Sometimes, it is a good idea for you to get the guest list from the hostess. Many direct sales consultants leave the responsibility of sending out invitations to the hostess. The main reason that there are not enough guests is that the invitations were never sent out. Let’s face it, most people lead busy lives. Making and sending out invitations does not typically fall at the top of a hostesses’ priority list. It is easy for this to be forgotten. The trend now is for the sales consultant to take on this responsibility and most reps are finding that cancellations go down with this technique.

Most hostesses are not going to tell you that they forgot to send the invitations out or that they sent them out at the last minute. They are more likely to say that no one was able to attend (they don’t want to admit to their mistakes). By getting the guest list and contact information, you can make sure everyone gets their invitation with plenty of notice.

Chances are, not everyone on the guest list will attend the party. That doesn’t mean that you can’t get business from them. The added bonus to sending out the invitations is that you can contact the people who do not attend the party. Following up with a guest who could not attend could not only increase your sales, you may end up getting a booking as well.

Most hostesses book parties because of the incentives. The chance to earn free merchandise is a big draw. Offering an additional incentive for booking a party can increase your chances of booking a party. However make sure they don’t get the gift until the night of the party, or they may cancel ahead of time.
