No matter what type of job you have or what business you work in, balancing business and a personal life is an important consideration. Many people work too hard and don’t allow enough time for a personal life. For business owners, finding enough personal time can be an even greater challenge. Home party plan consultants need to find a way to balance their business needs with their personal lives.
Having enough time is similar to having enough money. We spend time and we spend money. We save time and we save money. Sometimes there’s not enough time at the end of the day and sometimes there’s not enough money at the end of the month. Just as we need to budget money, we also need to budget time.
People who live on a budget often write down all income and expenses. This allows them to see where the money goes, and how much they can spend on certain items. With a written budget, they can plan and save for a vacation or the purchase of a big-ticket item.
Time Management Means Balance
Time budgeting and management will also help you find more time when needed. Scheduling time for various tasks for your business will help you balance time for personal tasks. If you create a schedule and stick to it, it will be easier to walk away from your business at the end of the day and enjoy some leisure time.
When using a schedule to balance business and personal time, one time management technique that works is to categorize your tasks. Make sure to categorize both business and personal tasks.
- Tasks that are urgent and have a deadline can be assigned an A
- Tasks that need to be completed, but have a deadline in the future or have no deadline, can be assigned a B
- Tasks that are extraneous and have no deadline, can be assigned a C
- Tasks that are superfluous or involve exploring something new, can be assigned a D.
You can put these tasks into two groups – one for business, and one for personal. You can put the “A” tasks in any order, then follow that with the “B” tasks, and so on. When using this type of time management, you do need to be flexible. Surprises, both good and bad, can happen at any time. If you have an immediate crisis at work, such as an unhappy client, don’t hesitate to put it at the top of the list. On the other hand, if you have an old friend come into town for the day, don’t hesitate to put that on top of the personal list.
Home Business Schedule
Creating a home business schedule that includes a categorized and prioritized list is an integral component of an effective time management system. If you are a home party plan consultant, you know how hard it can be to step away from your business to enjoy some personal time. However, finding a balance will help you achieve success in business and happiness in your personal life.
