Direct Sales Training in the 8 Basic Skills Will Increase Your Income

Having been successfully involved in Direct Sales Training in two industries over many years I know the need and importance of training salespeople. Training should be provided through inside training via classes and live calls in the field where the trainee is accompanied by a sales trainer or manager. Training in the classroom is good for instilling the Eight basic skills which are:

1) Attitude, where you are taught the essential mind set and people skills.

2) Motivation, the skill that will keep you selling despite the rejections.

3) Goals, why they are necessary and how to set them.

4) Time, your most precious commodity and how to make the best use of it.

5) Prospecting, identifying better prospects and getting referred to them.

6) Objections, how to make them work for you instead of against you.

7) Presentation skills that will make your sales flow to a natural close.

8) Marketing, making sure your clients continue to Know, Like, Trust and Refer you.

9) All these skills are best taught in the classroom where mistakes are less expensive.

Role playing where the salesperson plays the part of the prospect and another makes the presentation, with a trainer/manager observing, provides the person doing the selling with the opportunity to experience some of the tension involved in a real live situation.

It also allows practice in building a coherent presentation. Learning how to frame questions in order to test if an objection is valid is also best learned in the classroom. All the standard objections can be taught before a salesperson ventures forth into the real world of commerce. Fluency in presenting the standard objections and dealing with them before the prospect raises them is a valuable skill that will ease the flow of the sale to a natural close and avoids the harsh impact of using rebuttals.

Training in the field is useful for ‘advanced sales training’. It is best done in two phases.

In the first phase the trainer should demonstrate the whole procedure of the Direct sale in front of real prospects. The trainee is just an observer. After each of these sales the trainer should review the actual event and explain how each element of the presentation came into play.

In the second phase of the training the Salesperson makes the presentation with the trainer as the observer. Once again a critical review by the trainer is important, both to point out the errors or omissions made by the salesperson and also to provide support and encouragement which is essential in the early days of the training process.

Training should be a continuous process, because as salespeople progress they learn new methods and ideas. The gathering of the sales team for an exchange of ideas can speed up the learning process for the newer members. This works on the following basis.

You enter the meeting with a new idea that has been successful for you

You share that idea with the team. Other members also share ideas that have helped them.

You leave the meeting with your own idea still intact, plus one or more new ideas you have learned from the other members. This is a win-win situation which I have seen working with great results in sales meetings, sales seminars and annual sales conventions.

Direct Sales – Expose Some of the Advantages of Having Your Own Home Based Business

Month on month many thousands of new people flock to direct sales companies so that they can earn extra money. This seems to be especially appealing to women. This is because there is huge shift in women wanting to work from home. Direct sales home business does seem like an attractive alternative for these women. The harsh reality is that the success rate is much lower than one would like or expect. It is touted that people do not stick it out long enough or the go from company to company in order to make money quicker.

Learning the basic techniques of selling is important if you want to be your own boss in a direct sales business. Just as doctors, lawyers and teachers have to study for years to learn about their profession, so do salespeople. There is no such thing as a born doctor and there is no such thing as a born salesperson. Even those that are talented in selling need to fine-tune their skills by learning from the successes and experiences of those that were successful in the given direct selling company.

One can move products directly to the market via direct selling. The products are normally of good quality and are priced accordingly. When someone joins these companies the usually receive a kit which costs around one hundred dollars. The kit should contain samples, product and product information. The new distributor should use these products so they develop a belief system in the product. The information contained therein will assist with selling the product.

There are more benefits to working in the direct sales environment than one would care to mention. Some of the more salient ones are that there is no longer a boss, the alarm clock does not dictate when one needs to get out of bed. There is no more commuting to work and back. Stay at home mothers are able to work at home and be with their kids. Guidelines are available to assist with success, failing to follow these could mean failing in the opportunity.

The first key to success is to set apart an office area where you are accessible to your kids, but where they know they are not allowed to disturb you, unless there is an emergency. You have to be disciplined about work time and home time and schedule your time wisely. By making lists of things that need to be done, you will not waste time and forget important tasks.

In conclusion, in direct sales, rejection is the name of the game. It is important for the seller to understand that not all people need or want what is being sold. This should not become personal. Clients who buy should be pressed for referrals. The sales person should write his or her goals on paper and then attempt to achieve these goals step by step.

MLM Success Tips

Succeeding in MLM is hard, if you don’t know the steps you need to take to be successful. The market is flooded with more crap than ever, and people don’t inherently trust people like they use to. In order to combat that, you must learn a new set of skills that are applicable in today’s economic and social climate. The three MLM Success Tips I list below are the EXACT three skills/tips I use on a daily basis to be successful. Unfortunately, unless someone teaches you or tells you about these skills how would you ever know?

Exactly! And that’s why I am writing this article today. To let as many people know as possible what they need to do to be successful. So, I encourage you to read every letter below, set some goals, and TAKE MASSIVE ACTION.

MLM Success Tip #1: Brand Yourself Online — This is absolutely the most important step you can take to be successful in MLM. The reason is really two fold. First, you are probably not going to know enough of the right people to be successful in MLM just by recruiting your friends and family(although, this is a necessary step). Second, the only way to attract people to you online so that you can easily recruit them is to position yourself as the expert, and the leader people want to follow. One important step to doing this, is opening an account at some of the most popular social media sites. Here is a list of the sites you should open an account on.

  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Better Networker
  • Friend Feed

The key when opening these accounts is to take some time setting up your profile and uploading a nice professional picture. This doesn’t mean that you need to be in a suit or tie or anything, but you should be smiling and be wearing some nice clothes. After opening an account, and setting up your profile on each of these sites your next step is to start posting valuable content. Content that other people are going to like and use. DO NOT start spamming your business opportunity all over the place. People will naturally look to see what you are involved with when you have posted enough valuable content.

MLM Success Tip #2: Phone Skills — This is a must in my opinion and here’s why…. Once you have successfully attracted people to you who are interested in your business, either via social media or offiline methods, you are going to eventually HAVE to talk to them on the phone. And take it from me, it is a LOT easier to recruit people when you have some phone skills. Take time to learn positioning, and posture on the phone. A great course that will teach you most of this is Mike Dillard’s Black Belt Recruiting.

MLM Success Tip #3: Online Lead Generation — As discussed in step one, you will eventually run out of people to talk to in your local market. So, the ability to generate leads online is critical. Branding yourself (step 1) will generate some leads for you online, but to really multiple this effect you need to leverage a proven online lead generation system that will further help you position yourself as a expert.

There are many of these lead generation systems out there; but which ever one you choose, make sure it has three things. First, it needs to have built in customizable capture pages so that you do not need to create your own websites when you are starting out. Second, it needs to have on-going Internet marketing education that you can access at any time. Third, it should cost less than 50 dollars a month.

There you have it, the three proven methods for massive MLM Success! If you follow the tips above, you will be on your way to making more cash than you ever thought possible with your MLM biz.

Direct Sales Success – Boost Your Power in Your Home Party Business

Party Plan coach Deb Bixler has a great quote that she uses in her direct sales articles and live home party training events:

“Smile like a tiger and show your teeth.”

According to one of Deb’s direct sales training articles, tigers show their teeth as a means of intimidation and a show of power. The tiger could just as easily pounce first, but by ‘showing his teeth’, he’s displaying control, confidence and power.

Thus, Deb says direct sales consultants/party plan reps should smile to increase their power in any situation.

I think Deb’s only half right.

Home Party Consultants SHOULD Smile Smiling is very important. In fact, a good smile goes a long way toward helping a home party consultant feel more confident and in control at parties. It’s a great way to express a little intimidation: Smile, people will wonder what you’re up to!

But we can take Deb’s Tiger example even further.

Direct Sales Consultants should dress for success I’m not saying a home party consultant should throw on her husband’s hunting clothes before she heads out to her next party – although that’s definitely BOLD! But having “power clothes” – clothes in which you feel fantastic – no, UNSTOPPABLE – also adds to your level of confidence and self esteem. Find good fitting clothes that look attractive and make you feel attractive. The way you feel is psychologically linked to your confidence level as a home party consultant.

Home Party Reps should ‘put on their face’ The “eye of the tiger” is symbolic of the fire and drive – the passion – burning in the tiger’s heart. What’s your passion? Are you working from your passion? This could be your “why”, but in direct sales, it can also be a love of the product, enjoying doing home parties, etc. The point is to find the element that you are most passionate about, and work from that space. That way, at each of your parties, you’ll find that you’re “on fire” for the work you’re doing.

“Eyes on the side are animals that hide; eyes in front are animals that hunt”. You have to not only keep your eyes focused ahead (on your goals), but also be aware and ready for opportunities as they arise. The home party guest complaining about her job is potential “prey” for recruiting. The home party guest that’s having a blast is a potential hostess. Be alert to these possibilities.

Home Party Consultants should be seen! Further, you want to look your “prey” in the eye. In the wild, tigers rarely attack from behind (unless they’re in a chase). They always face their prey, look them in the eye and show their teeth to convey power. They make a point of being seen.

Be a home party tiger! Show your direct sales power by not just showing your teeth (smiling), but also by putting on your best colors, looking prey (prospects) in the eye, and keeping the fire (passion) alive in your eyes.

THEN you’ll be sharing your REAL power with all your home party guests – and your profits, bookings and recruits will soar.
